To add to Jim's comments, you will have to install gfortran from one of
the internet repositories for SuSE as gfortran does not come on the
downloadable CDs.  As I have not purchased a packaged copy of SuSE in a
while and only used the downloadable install CDs, I do not know if
gfortran is on the commercial CDs.
