Hmm ... this is news to me.

I'm guessing this might be some international keyboard issue? Eg. on
my (US) keyboard, the curly brace is shift-[ and shift-].

I'm not really sure what to tell you if alt-8 is giving you "{" in
every program but emacs ... I'm sure there's some simple solution.

You mean the R console running inside emacs?

Yes, it only runs on macs, in fact.
