[R] Problem and Question regarding R

That's strange (RedHat again?) it is part of the gcc build, and not part 
of f2c.  It looks to me as if the version actually used is

/usr/lib/gcc-lib/i386-redhat-linux/3.2/libg2c.so

in gcc-g77-3.2-7 on RH8.0.  SuSE may well be different.

In this case, don't.  Install g77.
