I've previously been able to make PD designs for both the v1 MF and  
the MR chips. I'm not sure what the secret sauce was, but I built them  
on our "big iron" servers (64gb ram :-) .. I'd be surprised if the  
18gb ram you have wouldn't be sufficient, though.

I'm not sure what's going south with your build, but in the meantime  
you can find the ones that I've built here:

They've been built on a 64-bit linux machine. I'm not sure if that's  
going to affect you or not.
