Content

Descriptive statistics, probability theory and experimental design, hypothesis testing, confidence intervals, correlation, simple and multiple linear regression, analysis of variance.

Exam

The exam will take place on Friday, 16.01.2015, 10:15-11:15 in HG E 5. Bring a calculator. Calculators with wireless capability (WiFi, Bluetooth,...) are not permitted. You may bring 4 sheets of summary (written on both sides) and a dictionary.

Altman, D. G. (1991). Practical statistics for medical research. Chapman and Hall. It contains a correct statistic and some very good examples. Some of the examples used in the lecture are taken from this book. 600 pages.

Armitage, P., Berry, G. & Matthews, J. N. S (1991). Statistical methods in medical research, 4th ed., Blackwell. A comprehensive textbook. 817 pages.

Bland, M. (1995). An introduction to medical statistics. Oxford Medical Publications. A very good introduction with a lot of examples and exercises. 396 pages.

Johnson, R. A. & Bhattacharyya, G. K. (1992). Statistics. Principles and methods. 2nd ed., Wiley. An easy read. 700 pages.

Werner Stahel (2007), Statistische Datenanalyse, 5th ed., A very good introduction with lots of examples from different sciences. 418 pages.
