==============================================
The Oeschger Centre for Climate Change Research of the University of
Bern (Switzerland) invites applications for the new position of

Professor for Climate Impact Research in Mountain Regions

opening on January 1, 2010. The appointment will be at the level of
Assistant Professor (tenure track) or Associate Professor (tenured). The
professorship is funded by the Schweizerische Mobiliar Genossenschaft.

The research focus of the new professorship is the quantification of
climate impacts in the Alpine region, in particular the long-term
evolution of trends, variability and extreme events and their impacts,
using methods from statistics and/or natural sciences. Analysis of
long-term time series and high-resolution climate model simulations
enable the development of scenarios for climate-related risks and
options for adaptation and prevention. The integration of
insurance-relevant aspects of risk analysis and a strong link with
climate economics at OCCR are desired.

Candidates with a background in mathematics and/or natural sciences
should have a first-class research record in the described research
field. Successful outside funding and active collaboration with the
insurance sector and other stakeholders are an advantage.

Women are especially encouraged to apply.

The professorship forms part of the OCCR and is hosted by an institute
of the Faculty of Science, preferably in the area of
Mathematics/Statistics, Physics, Geosciences or Biology.

Please send a letter of application, your detailed curriculum vitae, a
list of publications and extramural research funding, copies of the five
most relevant publications, and an outline of your current and planned
future research to Prof. U. Feller, Dean of the Faculty of Science,
University of Bern, Sidlerstrasse 5, CH-3012 Bern (Switzerland) by May
10, 2009.
