      Oracle inequalities for individual sequences

In statistics, an oracle inequality relates the performance of a
real estimator with that of an ideal estimator, which relies on
perfect information supplied by an oracle and not available in
practice. Surprisingly, oracle inequalities also arise in purely
deterministic contexts, where performance is measured on individual
(rather than on typical) data sequences. In this talk we will
review some oracle inequalities for individual sequences in domains
ranging from prediction with expert advice to linear regression and
classification.

      The Hyperbolic and Related Distributions
      David Scott, Universioty of Auckland, NZ

In many application areas the collection of large amounts of data
has brought a need for more sophisticated modeling of distributions.
In finance, but also in other areas, the hyperbolic and
related distributions have created considerable interest. I will
describe these distributions and their relevance to applications and
also mention other flamilies of distributions which have been
investigated.

The theory relating to these complex distributions is in the main,
well known, but implementing them in software and using them in
applications is another matter.

I will describe some problems and approaches using \textsf{R} to
implement the hyperbolic and related distributions. The work is also
of relevance in dealing with other distributions.
