[R-sig-ME] lmer not working

Hi Georgina,

I agree with Thierry that sessionInfo() would be very useful, 
particularly given that this particular issue has been known to occur 
_only_ for R version 3.0.0 (e.g. 3.0.1 is fine).  The following links

So unfortunately you might need to just update R.
