[I thought I responded, but I don't see it on the list, so sorry if  
this is a duplicate]

the version of your GUI and R don't match. You're using an outdated  
GUI version that was designed for earlier R versions. Please make  
sure you install the GUI version that comes with the R you use or,  
even better, get the latest GUI version for your particular R version  
from http://r.research.att.com/
