[R-SIG-Mac] Problem with R.app

I just upgraded to R 2.3.0, which I downloaded from
http://cran.stat.ucla.edu/bin/macosx/.  I can get R to work from the
commandline by typing "r", but when I launch R.app, it displays
"Loading R..." in the status bar at the bottom and never gives me a
prompt to start typing commands.  If I click on the R Console, I get
the spinning beach ball.  The only thing I can do is Force Quit the
application.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this?  I'm running 10.4.6 on
a G4 Powerbook.
