I downloaded gstat-2.4.5.tar.gz from the site you provided
and experienced no compilation issues. For that matter, the
csf directory was not part of the download, although it is
still listed in the README. Any particular reason why you
cannot use the newer version of the distribution?

$ uname -spr
Darwin 8.5.0 powerpc
$ cd ~/Desktop
$ tar zxvf gstat-2.4.5.tar.gz
$ cd gstat-2.4.5
$ ./configure
$ make

----------------------------------------------------------
