Adam, 

your problem is not Mac-specific, therefore I fear noone here will answer
your post and address your problem.
You probably will have more success if you re-post your report on the more
general r-help list.
Another alternative is the r-sig-db list, were database-specific questions
are discussed. 

Oh, and by the way -- sorry that I cannot offer you more (but I'm generally
interested in this kind of problem, too).
