Please start the Console application (Utilities->Console) and then  
run the R GUI. After it closes, you should see some new messages in  
the console log (if you don't see the choice of logs, click on the  
"Logs" symbol in the toolbar), please send me that output.

If that doesn't quite work for you, there is an alternative - just  
open the Terminal (Utilities->Terminal) and copy/paste this there:
cd /Applications/R.app/Contents/MacOS/
./R

And send me the full output.
