FWIW: the latter shouldn't be necessary since 2.1.1. Actually, can  
anyone confirm this? (= if you have libpng.dylib in /usr/local/lib it  
used to crash R 2.1.0 on Tiger due to ImageIO framework conflict, but  
that shouldn't be the case with 2.1.1 anymore).
