[R-SIG-Mac] g77 from R-2.1.1.dmg won't install

Please, can you be more specific as of why you cannot install in and  
send us the installer log? That would be helpful.

No it's not. Everything in /usr/local is external software not  
supplied by Apple. Besides Xcode includes no Fortran compiler.

That depends. We are shipping g77 now with R to make sure the  
configuration of the binary matches the compilers used. Your own  
version of g77 may or may not match it - there are too many different  
version around by now to tell. Basically if you can compile Fortran  
packages from sources it should be fine.
