New version on ftp://gifi.stat.ucla.edu/pub. This one has gnome support  
again, and
some updated packages.

At some point, I'll write some instructions, but basically you need to

1. get Jaguar
2. get the Apple Developer Tools (July and August 2002 versions)
3. Install X11R6 from XonX
4. install fink (preferably the source version)
5. install g77, readline, gnome and whatever else you need from
fink (what you need is what R complains about it does not have)
6. unpack the R distribution in /usr/local/lib

Alternatively

6. install r-base from fink (this gives you fewer packages)
