In ftp://gifi.stat.ucla.edu/pub/ you can find R-devel-OSX.tar.gz, which
is the X11/Darwin version of R-devel (i.e. R-1.5.0). It will be updated
every once in a while, for people who want to experiment. It unpacks
into an R-devel directory with its own bin and lib and man
subdirectories,
so it will not override your current R installation. It is only the
base distribution, but in R-1.5.0 many packages (MASS, sgeostat,
geoR, Matrix) have moved into the base.
The same considerations about dynamic librariies apply as for the
regular R distribution. This is also build with g77, ATLAS, dlcompat.
It has support for the gnome interface and the tcl/tk package. It also
has libR.dylib (R as a shared library).
