[R-sig-Geo] call for nominations for the James L. Smith medal

Dear colleagues,
The International Spatial Accuracy Research Association (ISARA) is accepting nominations for the James L. Smith Medal for junior scientists. The awarding of this medal recognizes one or more outstanding contributions, with considerable potential for future such contributions, by an early career scientist (i.e., a scholar not beyond seven years, by the close of the nomination period, of the awarding of her/his graduate degree-except in exceptional circumstances, a doctorate is preferable) to the thematic area of the International Symposia on Spatial Accuracy Assessment in Natural Resources and Environmental Sciences, namely how to measure, model and manage uncertainty and error in spatial natural resources and environmental data.
Any living member of the academic community (including education/research, government, and industry) may be nominated who has not held a doctoral degree for more than seven years by the close of the nomination period. A nomination must take the form of a written letter (the body of which may have no more than 750 words) from a scholar who is thoroughly acquainted with the nominee's work, stating in a well-structured, well-argued and convincing manner why the nominee deserves the medal. The letter must be signed by a total of three scholars, one of whom must have attended at least one of the Spatial Accuracy symposia (preferably one of the preceding three; this individual must identify which symposium s/he attended).
Nominations should be sent in digital format before January 31, 2018, to the Panel of Judges chair, Gerard Heuvelink (gerard.heuvelink at wur.nl<mailto:gerard.heuvelink at wur.nl>).
