Thanks Germán for qualifying this subject.

It's correct that R can be called through an ArcGIS Add-In.
It will be possible to write Add-ins in Python, from ver. 10.1 of 
ArcGIS. But actually you can do it in the present version (10.0), though 
not in Python, but in java, C++ or any .NET language. Provided that you 
can call R from inside these languages, but I'm sure there are ways to 
do that.
