[R-sig-Geo] HDF4 in Windows

R-sig-geo'ers:

I'm wondering if anyone has made any progress getting hdf4 files
working (querying + extracting data) in any R package on *Windows*.  I
have some MODIS and MASTER files which use HDF that I need to open up
and would prefer to not use either an external program or the Linux
version of R.  Thoughts?
