[R-sig-Geo] Strategy to crop margins in map by spplot()?

Hi

I would like to plot a map in a latex document, but would like to remove 
the big margins above and below the map in the pdf...

How can one remove these margins, and yet produce a rectangular map as 
shown on screen? I did not find the arguments in the spplot() to change 
the margins? Or is it simpler to try to crop it in latex directly?
