you can use the sources
deb-src http://<favorite-cran-mirror>/bin/linux/debian squeeze-cran/
together with these simple scripts:
http://kriemhild.uft.uni-bremen.de/viewvc/r-backports/build_r-base.sh?revision=83&view=markup
and
