No. It is one of ways. Quite often it is possible directly copy data by

read.table("clipboard") command.

No. You does not need to create **variable**. read.* function directs its output to console but you can redirect it to an **object** which is called data.frame.

Why do.call? If variables in your data frame are named e.g. bh, sa, bt, at and your data frame name is eg. cool you can just do

cool$cc <- with(cool, bh/(sa*bt-at))

to get new computed column.
