[R] nls for piecewise linear regression not converging to least square

Try reparameterizing:
nlmod2 <- nls(y2 ~ pmax(1/p, (x2 - xint)), data = dat,
start = list(xint = 40.49782, p = 1), trace = TRUE, alg = "plinear")
