If I understand your question I  think you don't want truehist()
{or hist()} in that case, rather something like

set.seed(123)
plot(round(rnorm(100),2), type = "h", lwd = 4)

    Ulrich> Ulrich
    Ulrich> -- 
    Ulrich> __________________________________________________

    Ulrich> Ulrich Leopold MSc.
