R was a lot less usable in 1998 when that edition was written.  Even then
there were `R Complements', but we judged R to be moving too fast to write
in.  (That's still a worry, but it's no longer a beta product.)

The fourth edition is to be called `Modern Applied Statistics with S' and
does try to mention R differences where they exist (and many fewer exist
than used to) and we know/remember about them.
