[R] Build on Solaris 8 gcc-3.1 fails make check

Hmm... gcc-3.0.3 on Solaris 7 works OK for me (passes make check
anyway). Anyone else tried 3.1? I suspect that Brian would.

I trust that you made sure that you did a clean build and didn't get
libraries mixed up or something?
