[R] Poisson regression with gamma random effects

I am looking for R code that performs poisson regression
with random effects, especially gamma distributed.
(What Lindsey's glmm does for normally distributed random effects.)

It is in fact easy to implement the EM algorithm in R for this
problem, I have written a prototype as an exercise, but before I
develop it further, I want to know if this already exists.

It also looks fairly straightforward to directly maximize the
marginal likelihood. Has anyone done that?

Thanks,

Göran Broström
