[R] hide solid lines in symbols

Is it possible creating line plots with symbols so, that the solid line
doesn't appear in the symbol background. When I fill the symbols with
color the line is still visible behind the symbols (with
plot.default(type="o"))
plot.default (type="b",lty=1) is not exactly what I want (the space
between lines and symbols).
