[R] unexpected reloc type in dyn.load

Well, I gave up playing with compilers and downloaded Martyn Plummer's R
rpm. This installed smoothly.  I then installed akima and odesolve, both
built using gcc/g77 2.96-63.  Both work, despite the mismatch between
2.95.2 used to build R and 2.96 used to build the libraries.
