[R] Problems with SuSE 6.4

Hello!

A friend of mine tried to install R 1.0.0 on a Linux SuSE 6.4 with new
compilers and new X. First the X-libs could not be found. Using the apropriate
flags to change the paths for X-libs for configure (deleting first
configure.cache) did not solve the problem. So he copied the libs
to the expected /usr/X11/lib/ resp. include (because linking was not possible)
it compiled fine up to the following error:

system.c line 106 Invalid asm statement
invalid register 2 GREC

Than he changed the xlib-PATH and X-include to the new paths in SuSE 6.4 in the
Makefile, thereafter linking R.X11 failed with a lot of unresolved references.

My friend finally stopped frustrated to install SuSE 6.4 and went back to SuSE
6.3 where he had no problems to install R. So this looks rather like a problem
concerning SuSE than concerning R. But my friend will send an apropriate mail to
SuSE as well.

Any suggestions or comments?

So long,

W.Theis

PS: I was just told, that there is no problem installing the rpm for SuSE 6.2/3
on 6.4. But it would be nice to know that compilation is possible as well! ;-)
