I hope you get help from people on the R-help list.
This would be really useful, since there still seems to be a lot of people
in some user communities
who rather "publish" SAS/IML than S (here meant as language, with R and
S-plus as dialects).
We also may find that R needs new features and many(?) of us will help you with
some of these.
Probably you should aim for something that (in the beginning) works for
about 90% of the cases,
but make sure that one gets warnings (and the original SAS code as R
comments) for the remaining 10% ...
