what do you mean by "playing"?

Are you offering to write documentation?
Starting points are

Examples in
	 src/library/base/man/text.Rd	 and.. some other *.Rd
then doc/manual/plotmath.tex (which does NOT contain all the new additions:)

but mainly Ihaka / Murrell's report on mathematical annotation
    ~~~~~~
which was mentioned by Ross on Dec.31 and which is
not publicly available anymore now, since it is Copyright by JCGS where it
will appear as publication `soon'.....
Ross actually promised some documentation himself.
One could produce something, using the LaTeX source of section 4 of the
above paper.  Ross will have to say what is legally available, however.
and the final joke:
  In R, everything is ``documented'' via source availability:
	src/main/plotmath.c
	         ~~~~~~~~~~
	src/include/Graphics.h
	src/main/graphics.c
	src/main/plot.c
	src/main/par.c
	...
