Kevin,
thanks for reporting this. R-Forge is not down but has been struggling
with DDoS attacks over the last months.
Part of the reason for the attacks appears to be that the FusionForge
system that R-Forge is built on is no longer maintained. The IT team at
the statmath dept at WU Wien have done a good job in avoiding security
issues so far. But probably R-Forge will reach its end of life in the
not-too-distant future.
The plans are to preserve the SVN service for the time being (potentially
also the mailmain mailing lists) but to replace the FusionForge web portal
with a static HTML page. Thus, all admin/registrations/etc. could not be
performed from that point onwards and also the build/check facilities
would cease to work.
The statmath IT team is still work on the details, hence no date has been
set for the transition. Of course, when the date is set, all R-Forge users
will be notified with more details and time to transition.
Personally, I have already moved most of my repositories to Codeberg.org
using R-universe for the development version builds/checks and
Codeberg.page for project homepages (built with altdoc or pkgdown). I have
chosen Codeberg as it is a non-profit, community-led platform established
in Germany and providing Git hosting and other services for promoting free
software projects. See https://codeberg.org/ for more details.
I'm about to write-up my experiences from the transition in a blog post.
Some preliminary notes are at https://codeberg.org/zeileis/c403/issues/1
but these need some more streamlining.
Best wishes,
Achim
