[Rd] unable to compile Recommended packages

Thank you for your responses. It turns out the problem was my version of 'tar' on solaris. I downloaded the latest Gnu tar and the install completed successfully. Who would of know ;)

Did you run
$RHOME/src/tools/rsync-recommended
to obtain the most recent versions of the recommended packages before
trying to compile them?
