I allocated --vsize 250M (on a machine with 512Mb physical memory) and ran
> gcinfo(T)
> repeat{mean(rnorm(100))}
Garbage collection [nr. 2]...
129352 cons cells free (51%)
255636 Kbytes of heap free (-31%)


The percentage of heap free is less than 0.
