I would like the same result here. As for the "As." functions, I would not be
inclined to encourage people too much to program things at this level in a way
that would not also work in S. The result may be that they decide they must make
a choice between the languages, and I don't think that would be a good thing.
One way around that is to include the "As." functions in a set of compatability
functions which can be used as programming tools in both S and R. (I have a
small set of these, but there are lots of things that could be added.)
