[ESS] emacs 27.1 crashes regularly on Mac M1

Hi Richard,

I can't test as I don't have an M1 Mac available. 

Did you try David Caldwell's "bare" binaries: https://emacsformacosx.com. Those are the binaries my distribution is based on.
