Indentation is a nice feature. But, that and the syntax highlighting
are very language dependent. In particular, the syntax highlighting has
quite good sensitivity/specificity for SAS, but not so much for R/S+ and
Stata. Like I said, this is not where ESS power is IMHO. And
improvements to syntax highlighting are not just around the corner since
it is hellish to program. I'm praying for a better approach RSN. Maybe
something like the semantic package, that actually works, incorporated
directly into the guts of all emacsen (and that doesn't require any
changes to ESS source code; clearly I'm delusional).
