Hi Vincent:

I decided to to do some testing and work on README a bit. 
If HOME is not set, then the default
is "%USERPROFILE%\Application Data" for GNU Emacs.  For XEmacs, you
need to set HOME, otherwise ~ behaves strangely (does it default to
PWD?).
