hi Robin et al.

this sequence works for me in Emacs 22 (CVS) - but should work for
older Emacs, like 21.3.50:

emacs -q

in *scratch* if I type

(]

I get no highlighting.

Then if I do M-x show-paren-mode then (] appears in purple when cursor
is on either bracket.

() produces cyan highlighting.
