Using stata with Xemacs

I have just installed  Xemacs and i downloaded ESS package which i
followed instruction on how to install.
The problem is if i start stata i get the following message

ESS [STA(Stata): env] starting data directory ? c:\

After i type the directory then i press return key i get the following
message.

Searching for program: No such file or directory, env.

Can anybody help me get started at least with stata. I am using windows
2000.
