displaying help files in R

When I start an R process and type C-cC-h and the name of a function I
get the help file as expected. But soon after, (I think after I as for
a help file that doesn't exist) every one of my requests gives me the
following with the appropriate command substituted in.

Error in help("xyplot", pager = "cat", window = F) :
	unused argument(s) (window ...)

If I exit R and restart I get the same behavior.
