Since I just downloaded the current ESS version, I checked the
behavior that previously most annoyed me.

In C-c C-t bb ## to get recover

When I am sending lines from the .r buffer to the *R* buffer with C-c
C-n or C-c C-c
and I trigger the recover action, then

the cursor is in the .r buffer,
the request "Selection: " appears twice, in the *R* buffer and in the
mini-buffer.
I leave the cursor in the .r buffer and press a number.
The *R* buffer receives the number and goes to the right place in the
frame list.

YAY!

This is now behaving the way I want.

I don't understand why the mini-buffer is involved. But as long as I
can ignore the mini-buffer it is ok.
I did attempt to type a number directly in the mini-buffer.
*Messages* opened and the cursor went to the
*R*.
