[ESS-bugs] ess-mode 12.03; noise in echo area

with the svn head ess, when I type to the R prompt, I see read.table
help in the echo area flickering on and off all the time.
this is very inconvenient because the size of the echo buffer changes
all the time and the text I type jumps up and down.
(no, I am not typing a read.table expression at this time, although
there are quite a few of them in the *R* buffer before the point;
moreover, searching back for them with C-r makes the screen jump all the
time because of the help flickering on and off all the time)
