I've used all parts  (and merged with own small "cleanups"
related to the TODO comments),
all committed as  r3995  to  svn
and uploaded new prerelease code for people w/o svn clients
to  ftp://stat.ethz.ch/U/maechler/ESS/

So it looks we will soon have an ESS 5.3.10 with more than just
a bug fix (wrt 5.3.9(, namely with considerably more reliable
Sweave-editing.
