            A stochastic model for blood production in mammals

            University of Washington and Lund University 

We describe a stochastic model that has been successful in
describing  blood production in cats, mice, monkeys and apes. The
structure of the  model is a hidden two-compartment model, and inference
is done by  simulation and by Markov chain Monte Carlo methods. We have
also, while  making a lot of assumptions which at the moment are
untestable, been  able to get some idea of appropriate parameter values
for humans. Other  ways of looking at the modal for humanrs are outlined.
