The Research Center for Statistics invites applications for the following position

POSTDOC (100%)
Research Center for Statistics, University of Geneva

The successful candidate will join Prof. Sebastian Engelke�s research group and the SNSF Eccellenza grant on "Graph structures, sparsity and high-dimensional inference for extremes". The research group focuses on statistical models for extreme events in complex scenarios with underlying graphical structures, and on exploring connections to high-dimensional inference, machine learning and causality. Possible applications are the analysis of climate extremes and financial crises. The selected postdoc is expected to work at the interface of these research fields and more particularly to help develop statistical methods to learn sparse structures in multivariate extremes.

Required qualifications and skills:
- PhD in Statistics or Probability Theory;
- Strong interest in at least one of these fields: extreme value theory, graphical models, machine learning, causality;
- Excellent programming skills;
- Excellent oral and written English skills.

Starting date: September 1, 2023, or upon mutual agreement.

Further Information: The selected candidate will be hired on a 1-year contract renewable for a maximum duration span of 2 years.
