The Division of Chronic Diseases of the Institute of Social and Preventive Medicine in Lausanne (IUMSP, www.iumsp.ch<http://www.iumsp.ch>) is looking for one bioinformatician/data scientist (70-100%). The deadline for application is September 20, 2017. Starting date is as soon as possible.

Job description:

The Swiss Inflammatory Bowel Disease Cohort Study (SIBDCS) started in October 2006. The Data centre of the cohort is located at IUMSP Lausanne with several objectives. One of those is to develop, implement, and apply machine learning algorithms and methods for R&D projects performed with cohort or register data.

The Vaud Tumour Registry (RVT), funded in 1972 and located at IUMSP, documents and records all cancer cases diagnosed in the Vaud population. The main objectives of RVT are to monitor cancer incidence, mortality and survival at the cantonal and national levels, and to conduct research and evaluation of cancer prevention initiatives. To assist with some of these tasks, the RVT aims at developing automated procedures to sort and classify medical documents, as well as to identify specific information in non-structured (text) documents.

The main task of this position is to develop and apply machine learning and data mining methods to analyse medical data within the SIBDCS and RVT.

Your role:

Application of machine learning and statistical techniques for precision health projects

Development of new methods in machine learning.

Application and development of data mining techniques

Perform statistical data analysis

Counselling and methodological assistance for research projects conducted in the framework of SIBDCCS/RVT.

Participate to meetings of working groups

Your skills and experience:

MSc or PhD in data science or bioinformatics

At least 3 years of prior experience relevant to the activities and tasks of the position.

Prior experience in data mining and machine learning methods.

Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team. Flexible and dynamic.

Good command of French and English (written and spoken), knowledge of German is an asset but not essential.

Previous experience in patient / clinical data management is an asset

Some experience in writing scientific documents in English

Salaries:

According to the scale of the Canton of Vaud and Swiss National Fund.
