UNIVERSITY OF OXFORD
Mathematical, Physical and Life Sciences Division

Department of Statistics, 24 - 29 St Giles', Oxford, OX1 3LB

Postdoctoral Research Assistant in Statistical Causality
Grade 7: £30,738 - £37,768 with a discretionary range to £41,255 p.a.

Applications are invited for a full time Postdoctoral Research Assistant in
Statistical Causality starting on the 1st April 2016 or as soon as possible
thereafter. The full time position is funded by the EPSRC (Engineering and
Physical Sciences Research Council) and is fixed-term for 2 years.

The postdoctoral research assistant is responsible for carrying out
research on the EPSRC project "Causal Inference from Partial Statistical
Information". This project will focus on issues relating to performing
causal inference with data taken from multiple populations and under
various (possibly complex) experimental settings, and evaluate the benefits
of doing so. Possible directions include new parameterisations for fitting
models; using constraints to perform inference; working with
high-dimensional data; and problems in experimental design.

You will develop new statistical theory and methods for performing causal
inference, and implementing these new methods as open-source software. You
will publish the outcomes of your research in relevant high-profile
international journals and conference proceedings, and present papers and
posters at conferences and workshops. You will also act as a source of
information to other researchers.

You will hold a completed (or soon to be completed) PhD in Statistics or a
related field. You will have sufficient specialist knowledge in the
discipline to work within the research programme and experience of a
programming language such as R, Matlab or Python. You will have excellent
communication skills, including the ability to write for publication,
discuss ideas, and present research proposals and results clearly. You will
have previous experience of contributing to publications/presentations and
will have the ability to manage your own academic research and associated
activities.

Queries about this post should be addressed to: Professor Robin Evans at
evans using stats.ox.ac.uk or Professor Christina Goldschmidt at
christina.goldschmidt using stats.ox.ac.uk.
